William Woodward
Bill is the Managing Director and founder of Anthem Venture Partners.
Bill brings to Anthem a distinguished career of nearly 25 years of
entrepreneurial and investment experience in technology, software,
and interactive media.
Bill began his entrepreneurial career when he founded Paracomp, a developer
of multimedia software and authoring tools, at the age of 26. In
1991, Bill merged Paracomp with Macromind and Authorware, and the
combined company went public in 1992 as Macromedia,
Inc., forming the largest multimedia software company in the
world and fostering a new industry. Macromedia
has since been acquired by Adobe.
Bill played a founding role in three other technology companies
prior to Anthem. Bill was the founder and chairman of Pulse
Mobile, a founder of Launch
Media (IPO and acquired by Yahoo),
and a founder of Cognet
Microsystems (acquired by Intel).
At Anthem, Bill serves on the boards of Axiom,
Buzznet,
Solarflare,
Wavestream
(Chairman), and Zag.
Prior to its sale to Google,
Bill also served as Chairman of the Board of NevenVision
and managed the progress of Corus
Pharma before its acquisition by Gilead Sciences. Bill was also
on the board of Planet ATE
before its sale to Intersil. Bill was instrumental in the IPO of
ACT.
Bill also served on the board of Intermix
Corporation (parent company to MySpace),
before it was acquired by NewsCorp.
Bill’s technology interests include innovative software platforms,
emerging new media models, and broadband convergence. His personal
interests include tennis, wine, movies, travel, and the entrepreneurial
process. He is a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, U.S.C.Trojans, and
the Oakland Raiders.
